Calendar Girls

Filed under: movies & media — alice @ 3:06 pm

This is the British film about the Women’s Institute ladies who make a nude calendar to raise money for charity and end up being interviewed on Jay Leno’s show. I thought it was fairly dreadful really. It is not sunny in Yorkshire all the whole while, I have been there. Mostly the weather oop north is dingey and grey, like everywhere else in Britain. Also those women were too rich. I am not really interested in the fact that even rich ladies with nothing to do all day also have husbands who sometimes get sick and die, just like poor people do. Also, why were they so excited to go to Hollywood? It was just a drive around in a car, and a lot of sunshine, and apparently it was always sunny in Yorkshire already in their universe. I have more to say, but cannot be bothered with it anymore. Helen Mirren, what were you thinking?

Just because you are now living in sunny Texas it does not mean you have to slag off the North of England, and Yorkshire in particular. I admit that as you have spent a lot of time in Manchester you may well think it is always glooy and grey! But over this side of the Pennines it is often gloriously warm and sunshiney. I have just bought a lovely house with the mosy sunny garden in the world and it is in Sheffield. So there!

So if I’m reading this correctly, you didn’t like the story because it inaccurately depicted the weather and the main characters were rich. This was based on a true story - should they have made the real ladies dirt poor so that you’d enjoy the film?

Lucretia, LOL! And good. Can I come and visit please? :)

Bonez, no, they did what they should, I’m just being mean about rich people. Some kind of latent class-hatred, no doubt.
