Spirited Away (other blog)

Duke Ellington and Count Basie- but for some reason they seem a bit depressing in Central Texas on a weekday afternoon. It’s laid-back evening music for people who had a stressful day in New York City.

Kenny Barron is more upbeat though, I am liking him a lot while doing my seasonal sewing. Will definitely do more of that.

Hank Mobley: I now know there is a type of music called “hard bop”. Cool. Upbeat again, I like this.

Now I want a gadget on my computer that remembers everything I’ve been listening to, puts it in alphabetical order, with stars (by me). There probably is one, I’m just too busy sewing to find it.

London: A Biography, by Peter Ackroyd, I am absolutely loving. It is like the book equivalent of a hundred-course banquet of all your favourite foods. Did you know that people were still living and having markets in the old Roman buildings for hundreds of years, probably thinking they were made by giants? How weird is that? And millions of other intriguing cool details, such as whether London was founded by the escaped Trojans or not. Glorious.
